For most people, vespa identical to engine strike, increase fuel consumption, wasteful spark plugs, carburetor flooding, and the multitude of other problems.

Well, to get rid of those problem you should do the periodic servicing and you can do it by your self here.

PREPARATION:

Usually periodic servicing typically involves examination of cables (clutch, gear shifting cable, and throttle), carburetor cleaning, combustion chamber cleaning and oil change. For that you should prepare this tools:

  • Wrench
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver


HOW TO DO:

FIRST STEP: Close the gasoline valve, then open the engine cover, the carburetor cover, the tub gear shifting cover.

 Open nipple clutch cables, gear shifting

Remove the lampshade. If necessary,  remove the lights off also for an easier job.

Unplug the throttle cable, clutch and gear shifting cable from the lever player. Clean the moving joints  and give the lubricant. If the cable is damaged, replace it with the new one.

If it still good, grab a plastic bag, make holes in the ends, then insert the cable and tied. Pour any oil fairly, try the new oil. If the cable is difficult to move, fill it with gasoline as an early stage so that the dirt out.

remove the carburetor from the holder. Discharging the carburetor in order to clean up inside. Immediately check the carburetor buoy of a possible leak. Because if the buoy conceded with gasoline, the fuel flow cannot be stopped although carburetor bowl is full. Adjust the size of the pilot jet, main jet, and starter jet according to the factory specification. Never reduce or enlarge the jet holes. check the bottom of the carburetor (carburetor side that attached to the carburator place), if not flat rub with sandpaper on the thick glass until it is completely straight. If the carburetor base curve, then when the engine running, gasoline that was supposed to break the suction hole can get out from the bottom side of the carburetor. If you finished, wash it with gasoline and clean with a compressor or bike pump to blown away the dirt.

SECOND STEP:  Rotate the fan until the  suction hole closed. Pour oil into the suction hole in fairly. (In the image using a green oil so it can captured clearly on the camera) If the oil down very quickly, be prepared to overhaul the engine. If you forced it, your vespa consumption of the gasoline  certainly  very wasteful, because when you open the throttle, gasoline will gush out from the  carburetor venturi hole. Fuel will be wasted. Here is the main cause of Vespa wasteful fuel.

THIRD STEP: Take off the exhaust, and open the cylinder head by removing the four bolts located on the cylinder head. Remove the piston home, also followed by removing the piston. Ring replacement or piston, or maybe possibly requires oversized depending on the measurement tolerance permited by the manufacturer. For these measurements required a special measuring tool, such as sliding-term and vooler. If compression leak is indicated by the blackened of the piston wall only a few millimeters from the ring, it means the pistons and the rings still can be use. If the blackened wall of the piston has reached the inlet hole or outlet holes or the pen output piston, it seems it’s time for you to oversized, or at least you need a new piston ring.

FOURTH STEP: Clean the crust on the piston and cylinder head using a gasoline and an old toothbrush, do not use a metal brush or sandpaper. Try brushing a circular direction parallel to the piston ring grooves. For a thickercrust, use a plastic scrap, or stuff like that (not made from metal) and done with caution. If you can buy a carbon cleaner for an easier way.

FIFTH STEP: After the piston, cylinder head, piston home is clean, replace the gaskets with new ones. If the work above is completed, reattach the clutch cable, gear shifting cable and throttle cable. Surely the green oil in the plastic bag has been entered into the cable, and of course the cable will move lightly. If the cable still feels heavy, remove it, and find out the cause. Ideally  just replace all with the new ones. Finally, return all to its original form, attach the new spark plugs, oil change, then try to take a ride with it.
